NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

It's National Volunteer Week, and we are celebrating our volunteers by sharing some of their stories, motivations and aspirations:

Day 5: Elisha Prajwal

Hi, this is Elisha Prajwal hailing from India, currently in 2nd year of my business undergraduate degree.
The V-Team experience has been one of my high points at university of Sydney so far. The range of volunteering opportunities from O-week to Tedx to Starlight foundation to Discussion groups has surprised me for good! The diverse nature of these tasks found me gaining something unique and finding myself in new situations despite falling under the same volunteering umbrella, which takes the cake for me.
The story I’d like to share is when I volunteered for Starlight Foundation to raise funds through the V-team. Whilst in this relatively awkward scenario of approaching people for donations for me, I met this women with her two kids who came up to me and donated, citing how her child was a survivor and that my actions were actually helping similar children see better lives. That’s when it hit me; I was helping in a small way that ultimately culminates into something as big as saving someone’s life.
That interaction saw me fundraising passionately with a positive mind-set for the rest of the day while changing my outlook towards such organisations, random fundraising people on George St or just life in general.
What next on the horizon V-team?
Volunteering is a great way to develop new skills, give back to the community, make new friends and simply have some fun. If you are a member of the USU and would like to participate in the program, click here.
