Committees & Forums

You can have a say in USU activities, programmes and events by being involved with one of our Student Experience Committees.

Committees act as links between the Board and USU Members to identify, condense and analyse information before presenting recommendations to the Board, and provide valuable input that helps the Board reach its decisions.

Clubs & Societies Committee

The Clubs & Societies Committee reviews applications from Clubs and Societies registered with the USU for financial assistance for their various activities, and makes recommendations to the Board regarding the funding and registration of clubs. The Committee also makes recommendations to the Board regarding the involvement of clubs and societies in Orientation Week, Re-Orientation Day and Clubs & Societies conferences, and reviews the Clubs and Societies Regulations.

Debates Committee

The Debates Committee organises the USU’s Debates program, including the coordination of internal debating competitions, social functions for debaters and the publication of the Debates Handbook. The Committee also supervises the USU’s involvement in the Australasian and World University championships, as well as other Intervarsity tournaments, including the selection of debaters and adjudicators. The Committee aims to trains and involve USU Members in debating, public speaking seminars and adjudicating events.

Student Programs & Activities Committee

The Student Programs & Activities Committee plans and promotes regular activities and events, including arts and cultural affairs programs and community services and volunteering programs for USU Members, and advises the Board on the USU’s Orientation Week program, the USU’s Arts Festival and Commemoration Day.

The Committee also advises the Board on all aspects of student media including The Union Recorder, The Bull and Hermes, the utilisation of performance spaces owned by the USU, the maintenance, storage and display of the artworks belonging to the USU and the policy and guidelines for the Cash4Art Program. The Committee considers the provision of Member and Community Development Programs and the USU’s community services and volunteering programs, advises the Board on the development of new volunteering programs for USU Members and oversees the Student Point of Contact program (SPOC).
