Short Film Competition 2008

Calling all student film makers!

This is your chance to win $1000 plus workshops to the value of $6300 by making a short film about life at Sydney University.

The University of Sydney Union wants all you cinematographers to come out and display your film making skills on screen for all to see. Based on the 2008 Beijing Olympics slogan, this year’s theme will be ONE WORLD, ONE DREAM.

By entering USU’s 2008 short film festival all participants will be given the opportunity to attend a workshop in early August covering some of the major aspects of film – producing, writing, directing and editing held at the cutting edge film school Participate film Academy.

To enter all you have to do is use the theme and incorporate the Quad and a USU building as reference shots to create a 1-5min film.

To be eligible 3/4 of the crew must be a current University of Sydney student and a USU member holding an Access Card.

Short Film Competition 2008 winners!

The University of Sydney Union would like to congratulate the winner of the 2008 Short Film Competition - Tom McKeith for his comedy Punchball.

After the success of the free film making workshop run by Participate Film Academy in early August Sydney Uni students worked hard to hand their short films in before the 5pm 26 August deadline. The hard work showed off, this years entries were of great quality and even greater comedic value.

The screening of the entries and announcement of the USU Short Film Competition winners were held at the Video Music Night during the Verge Arts Festival on Wednesday 3 September at Hermann's Bar. Hosted by Pop Professor Jay Katz from the SBS Movie Show and FBi's The Naked City, audience members were treated to a night of experimental cinema and an array of music videos from world-famous directors. Announced by Justin Flynn on the night; the winners of the Short Film Competition and the People's Choice Award are as follows:
