Tournaments

Easters (9 to 12 April 2009)

The Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships (known colloquially as "Easters") is Australia's largest debating tournament, held each year over the Easter period.

The tournament has a focus on developing novice debaters who have not yet debated at the Australasian or World Universities Debating Championships. The first major Intervarsity tournament of the year, Easters follows a three-speakers without replies debating style in preparation for the Australasian championships which include reply speeches. Debaters give 8 minute speeches and there are no reply speeches or points of information.

In 2009, it will be held at the University of Queensland. For more information about Easters 2009, visit www.uqeasters2009.com

Australs

The Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships (also known as 'Australs') is an annual debating tournament for teams from universities in the Australasian region.

It is one of the world's largest debating tournaments, second only in size to Worlds. Australs follows the Australia-Asian Debating format (three speakers plus replies), rather than the British Parliamentary Style used at WUDC. It is held every year in early July under the auspices of the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Association (AIDA).

In 2009, it will be held at Monash University, Melbourne. For more information about Australs 2009, visit www.monashaustrals.com

Worlds (27 December 2008 to 4 January 2009)

The World Universities Debating Championship ('Worlds') is the world's largest debating tournament, and one of the largest annual international student events in the world. It is a parliamentary debating event, held using a variant of the British Parliamentary Debate format.

In 2009 it will be held at University College Cork, Ireland. In 2010, it will be held at Koc University, Turkey. For more information about Cork Worlds 2009, visit www.corkworlds2009.com.
