Queer

The USU’s Queer program aims to bring to the University Community an awareness of queer issues whilst at the same time providing a safe and accepting environment in which all students feel comfortable and welcome.  The Queer Convenors will broaden the reach of the queer program on campus by developing existing activities and initiating others.

The USU appoints two people to this role: one male-identifying Queer Convenor and one female-identifying Queer Convenor.

Queer Events

	Identity Identity is a group for people who want to talk about issues to do with coming out, like relationships, the scene, safer sex and any other issues that they're interested in. Identity is run by queer students for queer students, and is funded by the USU.
	Queer Forum The Queer Forum is a space for students to discuss and contribute to the queer program on campus. Come along to get involved and have your say. All welcome to attend.

Toby Armstrong - Queer Convenor 2008

Toby is studying a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music Studies, with majors in clarinet performance, gender studies and philosophy. His work with queer community organisations has included volunteer work with ACON and the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, whilst his involvement with student organisations has seen him act as a first year mentor and become involved with a number of collectives on campus.

Toby is passionate about involving as many students as possible in the queer program, particularly members of the student community who are new to queer socialising and those students on satellite campuses. The six-week IDENTITY program and a very successful Pride Week have been particularly useful means of achieving these goals so far this year, and he looks forward to further extending the reach of the queer program throughout 2008. Musically, his current focus is on chamber music and pedagogy, and he hopes to go on to complete an honours thesis in gender studies in 2009.
