2012 KLUS General Meeting

Thursday 4 October 2012
6pm - 8pm
The Law Lounge, New Law Building
N/A
Korean Law Students at the University of Sydney

The event will commence at 6pm in the Law Lounge.

The Secretary will give brief introductions and inform members of the proposed amendments to the Constitution. The proposals are as follows:

1.1: Change of name from:

“Korean Law Students at the University of Sydney” to “Korean Law society at the University of Sydney”

4.1: Change of committee members from:

The Society shall have a Committee consisting of a President, Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, an Events and Media Director and Sponsorship Director and other subsidiary positions should the President at the time of the Annual General Meeting deem such election necessary

to:

The Society shall have a Committee consisting of a President, Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, an Events and Media Director, three Committee Members, and a Senior Advisor

Deleting 4.12, 4.13 and its sub-sections: Deleting IT Advisor and Sponsorship Director

Changing 8.1 RE: Elections, ‘president shall’ to ‘secretary shall’

Changing 8.1(d) from:
Stating that only Ordinary Members and Members, provided that they have at least attended one event within one year, shall be eligible to be candidates for election or to vote.

to:

Only Ordinary Members, provided that they have at least attended one event within one year, shall be eligible to be candidates for election or to vote.

Deleting 8.6:

Stating that Only Ordinary Members and Members other than Ordinary Members who would otherwise be eligible for Ordinary Membership shall be eligible to be candidates for election
Adding a sub-clause to 8.1 (1):
However, in the situation that no one applies to be a candidate, the floor would be open for the members that haven’t attended any event to be elected.

Adding to 8.Elections:

1.2 Voting shall be by secret ballot, and shall be First Past and Post

1.3 candidates will be able to run for multiple positions, provided that they drop from their candidacy of other positions in the situation that they are elected for a position.

4.2, 7.1 : Change of the AGM date from May to August:

The Committee shall be elected from its Ordinary Members at the Annual General Meeting in the month of August each year

**Reasons for this change:

- There needs to be a better hand-over from the previous execs to the newly elected exec members

- It takes time to get to know people, learn how to run the society and be good at it!
(e.g. major events like MT needs more resources + time)

- Committee execs (usually in 1st years) should not be subject to work only; they also need to be provided with an opportunity to get involved with activities & experience uni-life as first years. Having an AGM at a later date would thus allow assuming exec positions towards the end of their first year, having experienced the uni-life= better equipped.

The members will vote on the proposed amendments to the Constitution and if successful, the Constitution will be amended accordingly.
