SU Animal Welfare Society
Hello animal lovers!
The Animal Welfare Society has an exciting opportunity for you! On Monday, 22 October, at 3pm we are holding our Annual General Meeting with the agenda of holding elections to elect a new executive team. All positions; President, 2 x Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary, Events Coordinator, 2 x Media and Publication Officers and 8 x General Executives, will be up for election.
To be on the executive of a society is a fabulous opportunity! Clubs and societies are an integral part of the student experience, and to be on the executive is the ultimate way to become really involved in student life on campus. Through close coordination with the other executives, you forge rewarding friendships and become part of a meaningful and like-minded group of peers. Being on the executive gives a great sense of purpose and is a great way to feel that you really belong to something important.
Furthermore, if you are passionate about animal welfare and really want to make a difference to their plight, joining the AWS executive is a very meaningful way in which you can enact change on campus. If you have passion and great ideas for raising awareness about animal welfare issues, we would love to have you on board!
These positions will entail time and commitment however. If you want to nominate yourself please make sure that you have passion and dedication! Listed below are the descriptions of each position on offer.
President: is the chief executive of the society who will lead the executive team.
Vice Presidents: will support the President in helping to coordinate the society.
Treasurer: will handle the money side of things, including balancing our budget, signing cheques, applying for reimbursement, and preparing the society for audit. Secretary: will need to set agendas for meetings, record detailed minutes of those meetings and maintain membership lists.
Events Coordinator: will book rooms for our events, liaise with external bodies when organising events and provide logistical leadership in the planning and running of an event.
Media and Publications Officer: will need to write facebook events to publicise invites, and publicise widely our events through various media.
General Executives: have no role specific duties but you will be helping the executive make decisions about what events we should hold, how we should promote our society and how we can foster a rewarding student experience for our members.
So if you would like to hold any of these positions please come along and submit your nomination! And if you don't want to run for a position please come along too, as we would love to have your feedback on the past year and any ideas/suggestions you have for our society.
The AGM will be a great way to meet the exec team and to meet fellow members. We hope to make it a fun social event too yummy vegan food and drinks. So come along and eat and drink and have a great time with other members. We hope to see you there!!!
P.S. If you cannot make the AGM, but still want to nominate yourself for a position, please send an email to graciefoxox@gmail.com with a short summary of what position you will be running for and why you would be a good candidate. This will be read out at the AGM and taken into consideration for election along with the other nominees.
