International Global Studies Society General Meeting

General meeting of INGSOC. The purpose of which will be to discuss and vote on several constitutional amendments.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and vote on some constitutions amendments. These amendements will affect the aims of the club, adjusting them to better represent our policy of accepting and rejoicing in members from all degree backgrounds. We will also be looking at adding some positions, as well as consolidating some executive positions.

The exact constitutional changes will be as follows:


1. In Section 2, where it talks about the aims of the society, changing the first dot point to:

Foster social interaction amongst members of the society, who shall constitute students undertaking the Bachelor of International and Global Studies and those interested in international and global issues

2. In Section 4, where it talks about the Executive, change point 4.1 to:

The Society shall have an Executive consisting of:
i) A President
ii) A Vice President
iii) A Secretary
iv) A Treasurer
v) A Social Director
vi) A Publicity Director
vii) A Careers and Mentoring Director
viii) A Sponsorship Director
ix) A First Year Director

3. In Section 5, where it talks about the duties of the Executive, change Publicity Directors and Careers and Mentoring Directors to singular forms in line with the above changes. Also need to add:

The Sponsorship Director shall:

i) Promote the Society and its events to potential sponsors within the University of Sydney and beyond.
ii) Seek to establish links between the Society and the Department of International and Global Studies
iii) Seek to establish links between the Society and relevant organizations, think tanks and NGOs
iv) Promote links between the Society and other relevant University of Sydney Union clubs and societies
v) Secure sponsorship for the Society's events from the Department of International and Global Studies and other relevant organizations

The First Year Director shall:

i) Be responsible for promoting the Society to first year students
ii) Liaising with other executive members to organize networking and mentoring events for first year students

Finally, we will be going out to dinner afterwards, and naturally it would be fantastic if as many people as possible could come along to that!
