Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bruch and Copland
The year 1812 is most famous for inspiring Tchaikovsky’s celebratory overture, but it was also an important time for Beethoven, who completed his magnificent Seventh symphony in the same year. Two centuries on, the Sydney University Symphony Orchestra will revisit 1812 in its final concert for 2012 and perform both these works, as well as featuring legendary Australian cellist David Pereira performing Bruch’s enchanting Kol Nidrei. The SUSO brass and percussion sections will be opening the night with the spectacular Fanfare for the Common Man by Copland.
