The Escape of Chen Guangcheng from China and its Ramifications on Human Rights and US-Chinese Relations

On 22 April 2012, blind activist Chen Guangcheng escaped from house arrest in his home village of Dongshigu and was smuggled into Beijing, sparking international interest in the human rights issues present in China. To learn more about the ramifications of Chen's actions on human rights issues in China and the implications of the role of the US on political relations with China, the Australian-Chinese Youth Association is hosting a panel discussion in Week 7 to discuss these issues. The speakers are:

• Vivienne Bath, Professor of Chinese and International Business Law
• David Kinley, Professor of Human Rights Law
• Jingdong Yuan, Acting Director of the Centre for International Security Studies

The panel discussion will employ a Q&A-style format and questions from students are encouraged - should you have any questions on the above issues and wish to ask the expert panel, please email serenashiyawong@gmail.com.
